NTRA starts taking legal measures against Mountain View for conducting telemarketing calls in violation to law and relevant regulations issued

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA) announced it will start taking all necessary legal measures against Mountain View and refer it to Prosecution after getting many complaints from citizens about receiving telemarketing calls increasingly from this company during the recent period of time, and double-checking the validity of such complaints. NTRA also made sure these calls were conducted in violation to law, as well as to the regulations issued by NTRA on using mobile lines for conducting commercial as well as telemarketing calls.

Furthermore, NTRA confirmed it will start taking all legal measures against any company that violates the terms of law on this matter, or the relevant regulatory frameworks established by NTRA, and will announce the names of such companies successively.

It is noteworthy that these acts are criminalized by law pursuant to the provisions of Article No. 76 of Law No. 10 of 2003 on Telecommunication Regulation and the provisions of Article No. 25 of Law No. 175 of 2018 on Anti-Cyber and Information Technology Crimes which are punishable by imprisonment and fine.

So as to be mentioned, NTRA had issued regulations for using mobile lines to conduct telemarketing and commercial calls, to ensure this service is lawfully and legitimately provided without prejudice or disturbance to the privacy of citizens. This service will allow users to receive telemarketing calls with the name as well as number of the calling entity unveiled, or get a pre-alert (NTRA Alert) indicating that the incoming phone call is a telemarketing call, and therefore, they will be given the option whether to answer or ignore such calls. In case citizens have received anonymous telemarketing calls or without pre-alert, the number of caller will be reported whereas all legal and regulatory measures will be taken against the calling entity for not registering its data within the database of mobile operators and violating the regulations set regarding this matter.

In this sense, NTRA provided multi channels for citizens to report any violations against spam calls’ regulations, including the call centers of mobile operators’ or NTRA, hotline (155), My NTRA interactive app or via the assigned website: https://fraud.tra.gov.eg.
